Cigar Cutters
Cigar cutters are used to remove or penetrate the cap of a cigar before smoking it. There are three basic types of cuts, the straight cut, the wedge (or V) cut, and the hole punch. The type of cut to make is based on personal preference and the size and/or shape of the cigar. Experienced cigar smokers may not always make the same type of cut or use the same kind of cutter. The straight cut is the most common, and is always preferred on cigars with a small ring gauge (thin cigars)

Guillotine Cigar CutterReviewsthe guillotine cigar cutter was a nice addition to the humidor I got my husband for Christmas...it was a suggested item that I would not have thought of to get..he loved it...thanx It's a decent cutter for its price, but it would've been nice to point out that this cutter is too small for robusto size cigars When I received the cutter, my first reaction was "what a piece of crap!". It seemed far too flimsy. However, I've never been one to judge things solely on looks, so I gave it a shot. To my surprise, it seems to work fairly well. I don't expect it to last very long, as the cheap plastic body will fail fairly soon. Not an amazing cigar cutter. It is made of plastic as you can see from the pic, but it was cheap and gets the job done. It will hold me over until I'm ready to invest in a finer cigar cutter. My only regret is that I could have gone a little cheaper and gotten 10 for $10, but this will do just fine. As long as you're not the type to show off all of your paraphernalia, this will work just fine. Very nice, lightweight, with two razor sharp blades! This is an easy to handle and accurate cutter, and its not spring loaded which is also a good thing since they tend to "stick" and lock up. Comes with small carry case. Average Rating:![]() |

Havana Retractable Black Cigar PunchReviewsHave to say I was a bit susceptible, I often used a metal skewer, this gizmo works like a charm. Way cheaper here than in tobacco shops, or online cigar sites. I've been using guillotine, and Xikar cutters for a couple years, when I decided to give a punch a try (not the cigar brand) I purchased this one, and pulled out a Romeo y Julieta: Verona's Court, I centered it up and drove the blade home. The perfect clean hole was something I wasn't used to. Not cleaning up a pile of tobacco was also an added bonus. I lit the end and took my first pull...nice long draw, very impressed! I continued with the RyJ until about 3/4 through, this is normally where I feel the heat of the cigar, but not with the punch hole. I must admit I keep this on my key chain at all times, and turned my Xikar cutter into a drawer kept back up. Some people mention tar buildup but I have yet to experience this in any of the brands I smoke. Ill be ordering a second punch for my dads birthday this coming August! This is a nice alternative to the guillotine. The draw is as nice with this as with the other, but there is less cigar wasted. As others have stated, it is a personal preference. I will continue to use both as each has their good aspects. Works well and the price is right. Doesn't get any better than that. LATOR There isn't much to this. It pokes a hole in your cigar so you don't suck up a lung trying to pull smoke through a sealed wrapper. I will stay that it took me awhile to figure out how to retract the thing. I tried pushing on the button again, like a pen, but that didn't work, and because the thing is black it's hard to see the small, round button on the side that retracts the punch. Call me stupid, but I've never used a retractable cigar punch before. Average Rating:![]() |

Colibri Firebird Switchblade Cigar CutterReviewsFor the price, this cutter simply cannot be beat. I own a myriad of cutters (a handful of traditional guillotines, one Xikar cutter), and this one is the best. In my opinion, the Colibri is far better than the Xikar. The Colibri feels more solid. The Xikar, while still a nice cutter, doesn't always completely open up with a flick of the switch. The Colibri opens EVERY time. Both cut well, but the feel of the Colibri makes the cutting experience smoother. The price . . . well, if you've done your research on the Xikar, you know that you can buy two of these firebirds for the price of one Xikar. Average Rating:![]() |

This cutter is absolutely unbelievable. It features a little button, that when pressed down, snaps open the cutter like a switchblade. For years, this type of cutter was monopolized by one company, Xikar... |

XI Cutter, TitaniumReviewsI own the Xikar Xi1 cutter and couldn't be happier with my purchase (although I didn't buy it on amazon, I consulted the reviews here). I must say that the fit and finish on this piece are fine. It is built well and the mechanism is tight. It locks the blade at the conclusion of the cut. Also, I find the blade to be very sharp and it cuts larger cigars without a hitch. You will have no more bits of tobacco in your mouth. It is very satisfying to have a clean cut the first time. Also, they offer a lifetime warranty with free blade sharpening. All you have to do is fill out a brief survey and they will register it and send you a free leather sheath. Stop thinking about it and buy it. You'll love it. I wanted something better than the $4 cutter found at every tobacco store and gas station because they kept crushing my cigars rather than cutting them. I'm only an occasional (about 1 a month) cigar smoker so it didn't make sense for me to buy a $100 cigar cutter but this one was a good price and the quality has been excellent. I got the Titanium one and I really like the solid feel, it keeps the blades very close to eachother as they slide in which is critical in getting a smooth cut without pinching the cigar. I learned to twist the cigar as the blades made contact with it when I was using the cheap cutters and I continue to do this with the Xikar although it is plenty sharp and it isn't necessary it has simply become a habit. Like any good, quality item I recommend maintaining it for the best longevity, the best way to do this is to keep the blade clear of any debris. It also travels well as the built in locking mechanism keeps it closed at all times and it fits in a pocket watch sized pocket in slacks and jeans. I would recommend this cutter to anyone who appreciates good cigars and is tired of ruining them with a poorly built, dull cutter. A sleek clean looking cutter. Very solid build. Cuts with perfection. No flash, just truly helps you enjoy your cigars. After doing the research for a quality cutter, this is what I came up with and I am happy with the results. I purchased this as a gift for a friend, and he was very pleased with it. I love it so much that after losing my free one I went out and purchased one! And Xikar offers a LIFETIME warranty and free blade sharpening on their cutters!!!! Average Rating:![]() |

Blazer Chief II Cigar Lighter with Snap-In Cigar Cutter - BlackReviewsI bought this lighter as a replacement to my "cheapo" lighter that just has way too many issues igniting. I've been using it for a few weeks now and I have to say, I'm extremely pleased with it! It ignites virtually every time with a very smooth slide action and holds a beautiful strong single flame. I thought the cutter would just be a novelty add-on, but I've found it to be a very effective cutter! It's very sharp and makes a nice clean cut. Another thing I really love about this lighter is the visible fuel gauge that is found behind the cutter. I would definitely recommend this item to anyone in the market. Great price and a great product! Average Rating:![]() |

Blazer Chief II Cigar Lighter with Snap-In Cigar Cutter - Faded BlackReviewsLighters are kind of hard to get too excited about, but this is a very nice one. It looks good, works well and has a nice heft to it. The detachable cutter is very convenient and works very well to make a nice clean cut. Being smaller than a regular cutter it feels a bit odd at first, but it cuts easily. I would recommend it to a friend. In fact, I would give one to a friend. The lighter works as expected. Good quality good feel worth the purchase. Use high quality fuel for best results. Average Rating:![]() |

Straight Cigar Cutters
The most basic type of cutter used to make straight cuts is the single blade guillotine. The double blade guillotine is preferred by many aficionados because it usually makes a cleaner cut. Cigar scissors are also used to make straight cuts, and may be the best choice for cutting the cigar at the exact spot you intend. However, the guillotines are usually the most practical, the least expensive, and can be easily and safely carried in the pocket of your shirt or trousers.
Wedge Cutters
The wedge or "V" cutter resembles the guillotine cutter, but the shape of the blade slices a wedge into the cap of the cigar instead of cutting it completely off. The cutter is designed to slice from one side, and at the same depth, so there is no danger of cutting too deep.
Hole Punch
The hole punch is used to put a hole in the cap of the cigar, instead of cutting it off. If the hole is not large enough for the cigar, the draw of smoke through the cigar can be impeded. Also, as the cigar is smoked, tar can accumulate near the hole, also affecting the taste as well as the draw. Here's a hot tip: In a pinch when no cutter is available, or to sample a hole punched cigar without buying a hole punch device, a hole cut can be made in a cigar using a pen or pencil.
