The Complete Idiot's Guide to Cigars: I am still a complete idiot but now I know a LOT more about cigars and especially how to really enjoy them. The author takes you through just about any aspect of cigars a reasonable person would want to know. The biggest gains for me were in the details of how to evaluate cigars (before you buy) and of humidifying them once you get them home. I enjoyed reading the book each evening as I sipped on a great stogie after dinner - sort of practicing the act of lighting, smoking and savoring that wonderful tobacco. If you're a complete idiot this book probably won't improve your intelligence but it will advance your knowledge of the art and pleasure of cigar smoking. Highly recommended.

I just started this book a few hours ago. I'm really excited to finish it off though! It's full of great information, not only about cigars, but the whole cigars smoking experience. Everything from places to smoke, to how to smoke, to how to review your cigar. Anyone who smokes can really benefit from this book!

Another Great Cigar Find! If you like reading and learning about cigar history you should really sign up for cigar aficionado magazine to keep up with new cigar releases, industry hoopla and laws that could affect your rights to smoke cigars. [..]

I got this for my hubby when his interest in cigars grew. I wasn't sure how great this would be but thought it would be a good starter book. It exceeded my expectations though. It is a great book for cigar lovers.

I've enjoyed cigars for several years and was curious to see if this book would prove interesting or useful. It turned out to be both. There is some interesting history and information on how cigars are made. I never thought about it before, but a lot of hard work goes into making a fine cigar. The part that was most useful to me was what to look for in a quality cigar and why these traits are important. I'd gotten to the point where most new cigars I tried didn't interest me, and I'd begun to stick to a select handful. Armed with the information Mr. Gage provides, I'm able to select new cigars that I'm more likely to enjoy. Thanks for making an enjoyable pasttime more enjoyable!

This is a nice introductory level book which touches on most aspects of cigars. I would recommend as an initial read before diving into the topic more deeply. I found it well written with good photos. An easy read.

I order a book from a seller on amazon.com and wait, and wait and wait. And then finally, 1 week after the promised delivery date the seller tells me that they don't have the item I ordered. This has happened to me twice on amazon.com. This has NEVER happend @ barnes and noble. What a waste of my time!!! I will never order from this site again, and I have vested many orders through them. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS SELLER, THEY WILL TAKE YOUR ORDER AND NOT DELIVER AS PROMISED!!!

its new and has alot pics. it seems like any other cigar book with basicly the same info, but it has a more of a enclyclopidea feel to it. good for beginners wanting to learn

This is a great little book. It has an indepth, yet not too wordy history of Cigars. It gets to the point. It touches on the etiquette of handling/smoking cigars without going into unnecassary mountains of details, unlike some other books. It will make anyone, novice and expert alike, comfortable with purchasing and enjoying a Cigar, which all self help books should. Cigars are simple, delicate and to be enjoyed (not to be wrangled by the "laws" of a mysterious etiquette). Mr. Luck's book is easy and will give you all of the knowledge you need to know about this delicacy. I recently had an experience in a store where an older couple wanted to buy a cigar for a friend but did not know which to chose. Everything that the seller said could have been taken directly from this book. A purely simple and aromatic view on Cigars. Enjoy. I do.

Great little book! Very informative. Lots of history about cigars, families of cigar makers and countries that produce cigars. Also a chapter on cigar smoking etiquette. loved it!!

Simply the best Cigar book bar none. I have had others but they are poor pretenders. Tad Gage looks at Cigars and other types of smokes from the seedling to the history to the grading of them. A great read and the best book I have ever bought. Money well invested. I am a cigar smoker of 15+ years.

This book changed me from 'don't know anything about cigars' to occasionally cigar smoker. I am educated through this reading, and my purchases were never failed again. Can't go wrong owning this book.

The book provides great information and resources (e.g., various types of tobacco used, the manufacturing process and different shapes & strengths, etc.), as well as the history of cigar for new smokers who are interested. Fun and easy to read. Strongly recommended for cigar fans.

Bought this as a gift for my step-dad. He said it is helpful in picking cigars.

As I'm fond of telling whoever will listen, I never touched alcohol until I went to seminary. Cigars are an even more recently acquired vice. My older brother got me into Macanudos, and since then I've enjoyed Avos, Buteras, and Arturo Fuentes. I'm even a regular at a Portland cigar bar, where I unwind after a long workweek with tawny port, long stogie, and a good book. I've learned enough about cigars to be dangerous, so I wanted a more formal knowledge base about them. Therefore, I decided to pick up this guide. "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Cigars" is a fine introduction to the cigar world. Tad Gage has a deep affection for cigars, and he writes in a clear, enthusiastic manner about them. He explains the different types of cigars, the procedure for smoking one, and proper storage. In addition to this practical advice, Mr. Gage reveals the history of cigars, how they are made, and the reality behind the whole Cuban tobacco mystique. He even devotes a chapter to pipe smoking for those so inclined. At the book's end is a rating list of many common brands, along with a mild to full-bodied flavor chart. So far Mr. Gage's tastes have mirrored my own, so I look forward to trying more of his favorites (such as Davidoff and Fuente Fuente OpusX). I understand that there's a backlash towards tobacco, and one should count the cost before indulging. But life is short, and certain pleasures in moderation aren't a bad thing. It's a shame that my home state (Washington) has banned smoking in public places. I patronized a number of Seattle's cigar bars back in the day, and I miss them. But at least Oregon hasn't jumped on the prohibition bandwagon. At any rate, if you are interested in becoming a cigar aficionado, then start with "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Cigars." Long ashes to you!
